Matt Damon says he turned down Harvey Dent in 'The Dark Knight' because it was a "small role"

Matt Damon was a guest on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast with Josh Horowitz today to promote his role in Christopher Nolan's new movie, The Odyssey. It's been known that Damon was Nolan's first choice to play Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight, but Damon opened up about why he passed on it.

The role was too "small role", accoding to Damon, and he was trying to land bigger, leading man type roles at the time.

Damon: Well, Dark Knight was a small role that I was offered. I mean, it obviously wasn't Heath or Christian's part.

Horowitz: It was the Harvey Dent role, wasn't it?

Damon: Yeah. And so, sometimes you look at a role and you're like, 'Alright, it's good, it's a good role in a great movie.'... There was some other big movie that I was doing where I was like, 'Well, I can't play Harvey Dent,' you know what I mean? It's a relatively small role and I'm headlining this other thing."

You can watch a video of Damon's comments below.

Aaron Eckhart was a great choice for Harvey Dent/Two-Face, but how do you think Matt Damon would've done in the role? Let me know in the comments below.
